a new online presence

The Swig Company is a private investment company with a 75-year history of development, ownership and management of commercial real estate properties in major markets throughout the United States. The Company’s diversified portfolio includes 9+ million square feet of office buildings in markets such as New York, San Francisco, and Southern California. 


I was initially asked to redesign The Swig Company's main website. The client requested a site that reflected:

  1. The Swig Company's conservative approach to investment
  2. A trend resistant, modern aesthetic
  3. Targeted content for investor and public relations
  4. Simple HTML/CSS for the client to do all updates via Contribute
brand management

The firm's branding assets needed some refreshing. Working with the client, I revisited brand goals and created a branding guide. Because the branding process worked in tandem with the site design, this brought an added layer of cohesion. It also became clear that the tone and content needed to be branded. With a large number of properties, each property's website had been written by different people, and a consistent voice would need to be implemented along with consistent visual design.

The main site design was smoothly implemented, and the client was pleased with the results. The client and I then realized that the development of a cohesive online presence would require bringing their individual property websites into line with the new branding guides.

The next step was to redesign all of the individual property sites.

Although the initial project scope was a redesign of the main site, as the project progressed, the client found that a multi-site approach was needed to strengthen the new branding guidelines.

Cohesive multi-site branding

All of the sites carried through an angular, clean aesthetic with minimal decorative effects. Site structures were kept as similar as possible. Each site features a durable design that also accurately reflects the individual property's unique qualities. This has helped attract target market tenants in each building.

use results

The client has been very pleased with results, and actively updates website with leasing availabilities, making the sites a well-used and integral part of the firm's branding. With the new, accessible websites, future expansion and feature integration became possible. The sites are currently in the process of incorporating a new work-order system across the board. In addition, having one designer create and develop the sites has led to efforts to consolidate hosting solutions.
